Class Size Max: 6

Interested in learning alternative process printing but unsure which to explore? Do you have a project in mind and want to experiment with materials, surfaces, and techniques to find the right fit?

This four-week workshop, open to students of all levels, introduces a range of iron-based printing processes: cyanotype, van dyke brown, kallitype and platinum printing. Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, students gain experience mixing chemistry, coating substrates, exposing, and processing prints. Each week, students will bring digital files created with any device to be printed as digital negatives and translated into each process. By the end of the course, students leave with a portfolio of prints in each process and the technical knowledge to continue experimenting on their own.

Want to learn more? Consider Intro to Alternative Process: Salt and Silver to explore salted paper, albumen, and collodio chloride.

$150 materials fee included in tuition

If your desired tuition option is unavailable, please email info@penumbrafoundation.org and we will do our best to accommodate you. If the entire class is sold out, we can add you to the waitlist.
