Join artist Brittonie Fletcher for an afternoon in the darkroom making developers and prints. Brittonie will guide participants in exposing and developing black and white photo paper with DIY developers, which participants will make with simple household ingredients. Contact prints will be made with Lofi exposure setups with the option for experimental photograms, printing from digital negatives, or contact printing 35 mm film from the Developing Film with Caffenol Workshop. Caffenol will be explored as a gateway to making your film and paper developers from scratch to learn more about the science of photography and open up options for adopting a more environmentally friendly photographic practice. Topics covered include visual demonstrations of different developers and how caffenol compares to commercial developers, building blocks of developers, how these chemical elements affect the print and add to your artistic intent including fine tuning for color palate and contrast, hypo substitution, and more. This workshop is suited for absolute beginners and experienced film users alike. This workshop acts as a great follow up to Developing Film with Caffenol.

BRITTONIE FLETCHER (MFA) has a creative practice between the UK and the USA. In addition to teaching at Penumbra, Brittonie is a dedicated teacher at Stills Centre for Photography in Scotland, where she initiated their Alternative Process Program. She has taught elsewhere, including the Royal College of Art. Brittonie's work is published in books from Focal/Rutledge Press (including Christina Z Anderson's Salt book and Annette Goez's Cyanotype Toning of the same series) and Random House. Her work is exhibited and included in public collections and private international collections.
