Class Size Max: 10
Join artist Brittonie Fletcher for an afternoon photowalk and homemade developer workshop. Brittonie will guide participants in exposing and developing film for DIY developer, which will be made with simple household ingredients. Caffenol will be explored as a gateway to building your own film and paper developers from scratch in order to learn more about the science of photography and open up options for adopting a more environmentally friendly photographic practice. Topics covered include visual demonstrations of different developers and how caffenol compares to commercial developers, which films work best for adjusting for caffenol, building blocks of developers, how these chemical elements affect the film and add to your artistic intent, hypo substitution and more. This workshop is suited for absolute beginners and experienced film users alike. No experience in film development, exposure, or chemistry is necessary for this workshop. Tuition includes one roll of 35mm film. Each student will shoot and develop one roll. We kindly ask that you bring your own 35mm camera. If you do not own one, please let us know beforehand.
Tuition includes $20 materials fee.
If your desired tuition option is unavailable, please email info@penumbrafoundation.org and we will do our best to accommodate you. If the entire class is sold out, we can add you to the waitlist.
