This 4-week course places the language of color in a historical, philosophical, and experimental context. Students will examine disparate mediums such as cinema, painting, photography, and sculpture, while considering philosophical and theoretical concepts that counter conventional, lens-based approaches. Through hands-on practice, students will investigate ways to create subjective and informed color using fully manual film cameras. Students will delve into various in-camera photographic techniques, from simple to complex, incorporating available and controlled lighting, gels, filters, handmade masks, and color papers. The course fosters a supportive, exploratory environment designed to enrich each participant’s artistic practice. By the end of the course, students will have developed a deeper understanding of color and its creative potential both in and beyond the studio.
Tuition includes a $25 materials fee.
If your desired tuition option is unavailable, please email info@penumbrafoundation.org and we will do our best to accommodate you. If the entire class is sold out, we can add you to the waitlist.
