10 AM - 6 PM

Class Size Max: 4

This hands-on exploratory workshop introduces students to the creative possibilities of inkjet printing, focusing on selecting the right paper for a book or zine project. Participants will begin by reviewing sample books and discussing the advantages and limitations of inkjet printing for bound works.

Each student will receive a curated selection of five thin, double-sided photo papers ideal for the book form. During a guided printing session, the instructor will cover essential practices—file preparation, color management, ICC profiles, and paper grain direction—before students print test images on each substrate. Through direct comparison, participants will learn how paper choice affects color rendition, contrast, and mood.

The class will conclude with an informal critique focused on how material decisions shape visual experience, followed by a simple binding exercise using cover stock and staples. Students will leave with printed spreads and a tactile understanding of how their images function in book form.

Tuition includes a $100 materials fee

If your desired tuition option is unavailable, please email info@penumbrafoundation.org and we will do our best to accommodate you. If the entire class is sold out, we can add you to the waitlist.

Charlie Weber is a photographer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. He earned his MFA from the Hartford Art School in 2024, where he was awarded a merit scholarship. His most recent body of work, In This Unlikely Place, was created over the course of three months while living aboard a sailboat, traveling slowly from Rhode Island to Florida. Rooted in a deep sensitivity to place and a disciplined technical approach, Weber believes that when the technical foundation is strong, the rest will follow.
