Prerequisites: Familiarity with Photoshop is required, particularly an understanding of adjustment layers.

This 3-day intensive course offers participants a deep dive into platinum palladium, a photographic process known for its exceptional tonal range and subtle, reflective qualities. 

Through lecture, demonstration, and hands-on learning, students will be introduced to the platinum palladium process from start to finish. Topics include how to make successful digital negatives, proper coating and exposure techniques, matching print tone to creative vision, comparing traditional to sodium platinum Na2 printing processes, and final presentation. Participants will experiment with additional creative options, including painterly glycerin development, gold-toning, cyanotype layering, and spotting/ retouching practices. 

Students will finish this course with an excellent overview of the platinum printing process, a collection of exquisite prints, and the foundational skills to continue printing independently. Students of all skill levels are welcome.

Tuition includes a $300 materials fee.

Tricia Rosenkilde is a fine art photographer and an educator. A BFA graduate of Rutgers University, she works predominantly with analog printing processes, specializing in platinum/palladium printing. Utilizing a photographic process known as “Camera Obscura”, her images display an impressionist quality that evoke the spirit of the past. Her series “Panoramic Pinholes” and “Paper Negatives” capture images of chateaux, gardens and scenic views from locations in France and Italy. In addition to her fine art work, Tricia is a dedicated instructor at The Penumbra Foundation and The International Center of Photography, NYC. During twenty plus years of teaching photography she has also taught courses and workshops at Parsons School of Design, NYC, the Morgan Library NYC, NJ Center for Visual Arts, and Seton Hall University, NJ. Her work has been shown throughout the US, including at MOCA, Los Angeles, Galerie L’Atelier/Fremin Gallery, NYC, Griner Waters Gallery, Lakeland FL, The International Center of Photography NYC, Soho Photo Gallery, NYC, The Crane Arts Center, Philadelphia PA, Drew University Korn Gallery, Madison NJ, among others. Tricia is represented by Nicolas Auvray Gallery.
