Want to learn a range of new photo processes, but you are unsure which one you want to learn and explore? Do you have a project in mind but are unsure how to manifest it in print or capture? During this eight-week workshop, students will learn the basics of a range of alternative photographic print and lens-based techniques. The course typically covers four to eight processes with many variations. Processes covered in previous sessions include: glossy and matte albumen, gum dichromate, salted paper, kallitype, argyrotype, brown print, wet plate collodion, ambrotype, dry plate, collodio chloride, traditional and ware cyanotype, platinum palladium, and inkjet layering.
In class, students will either be photographing for lens-based processes or contact printing for non-lens-based processes, which requires a large format (b&w) or digital negative. For printing digital negatives, digital files from any device are appropriate for the course. Students must come prepared with digital files from their DSLR, iPhone, or film scans. Participants will be hand-coating paper, glass, and metal while experimenting with different approaches within the medium. This course is recommended for students ranging from beginner to advanced who are hungry for knowledge.
$150 materials fee included in tuition
