What Makes a Photobook Sustainable?  celebrates three years of research and conversations by the Sustainable Photobook Publishing (SPP) network. The book is a compendium of forty case studies along with roundtable discussions, essays, quotes and prompts, that collectively seek to demystify the publishing process — illuminating how books are made and illustrating why knowing, and asking questions, plays a fundamental part in making better, more strategic choices for both people and the planet.

With this publication, SPP intends to employ distributive publishing and ultimately create an international co-publishing network that trials methods of decentralized publishing. Four contributors to the book in different geographies are working together to explore ethical making and circulation strategies within their varying contexts, and each will publish the book according to their own findings. This US edition is the first iteration.
