Hôtel Wolfers (Elsene, Belgium)
Marie Levoyet / Èric Chenal
In the Spring of 2013, I discovered the Wolfers house, commissioned in Ixelles in 1929 by Henry Van de Velde, and occupied since 1977 by the doctor-radiologist and collector of conceptual art Herman Daled. Other photographic visits followed during several years. In 2019, I photographed for the last time the light as a presence in the service staircase. Five images were then selected for a project of color photogravure. The portfolio, Hôtel Wolfers, was made possible thanks to the Mission of Encouragement and support to the creation and the diffusion of authors' works by the National Center of Audiovisual of Luxembourg.
Èric Chenal
Éric Chenal (b. 1996, France) lives and works between France and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. He explores the in-between in the heart of places in the making and in the relationships we have with the interior space. His photographic practice is a search for light as presence.
Marie Levoyet (b. 1996, France) is an engraver and intaglio printer. She trained under Fanny Boucher and has printed for various contemporary artists since opening her studio in 2018. Levoyet specializes in color photogravure. Levoyet continues to research the gravure process, often across disciplines, collaborating with practices such as dance and movement, theater and scenography, and object design, as well as with photographers.
