This 3-day workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to traditional black-and-white photography. Ideal for beginners or those looking to refresh their skills, the course covers the essential techniques of analog image making.

Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on learning, students will learn to operate 35mm film cameras, properly expose images, process black-and-white negatives, and create silver gelatin prints in the darkroom. During the first class, participants will take part in a guided photowalk to practice camera functions, before returning to the darkroom to develop their negatives. The remainder of the course will be dedicated to printing techniques. Students will leave the workshop with the foundational skills and confidence to incorporate this workflow into their practice.

No prior darkroom or photography experience is needed. Tuition includes 2 rolls of film and 25 sheets of RC paper. Students may purchase additional film and paper as needed.

If your desired tuition option is unavailable, please email info@penumbrafoundation.org and we will do our best to accommodate you. If the entire class is sold out, we can add you to the waitlist.
