WET PLATE in west virginia (Intermediate)

ABOUT WET PLATE:
Wet plate collodion was the leading method of photography during the 1850’s and 1860’s. The wet plate process is most commonly known in its three forms – tintypes (positives on tin), ambrotypes (positives on glass), and glass negatives (negatives on glass). In this workshop, Lisa will teach students how to create glass negatives, tintypes and ambrotypes in camera.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Working in the field presents a new set of variables that can change your wet plate workflow. Lisa will cater your in the field experience to suit your unique questions specific to your personal materials and equipment. In a weekend you will not only have the opportunity to sharpen your developer pours, collodion pours, glass negatives, and tintypes but you will have two full days of shooting. Make this weekend about you and your practice, while also enjoying the rural landscape ripe with subject matter to photograph in Paw Paw, West Virginia.
Participants will be able to shoot with 4x5 cameras (provided) or use their own cameras, up to 5x7. If a student has a larger camera they would like to work with, please e-mail Lisa at lisaelmaleh@gmail.com.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Students will need to provide their own transportation, food, tents, and sleeping bags. Accommodations are available nearby for those who do not want to camp. One small tent is available for workshop participant use on a first come, first served basis.

Workshop participants will be using 4x5” graflex cameras. The cameras, chemicals and materials will be supplied. This is a camping workshop, attendees should should take this into consideration when preparing (tents, sleeping bags, food, etc). LISA ELMALEH's work is an exploration of rural America. Using a portable darkroom in the trunk of her car, Elmaleh photographs using the nineteenth century wet collodion process. Elmaleh received the Silas Rhodes scholarship to attend the School of Visual Arts, and obtained a BFA with honors. She is a recipient of the Tierney Fellowship, the Everglades Artist Residency, the Camera Club of New York Darkroom Residency, and the Goldwell Artist Residency. She has been included in various group shows such as the 2008 New York Photofest (Powerhouse) and Landscape: Voyage (KMR Arts). lisaelmaleh.com
