STILL LIFE STYLING AND PHOTOGRAPHY WITH HEIRLOOM OBJECTS, EPHEMERA, AND FLEA MARKET FINDS
Instructor: Robin Zachary | Dates: Tuesdays, June 24 & July 8 | Time: 6 - 8 PM | Tuition: $155 | Members: $132 | Class Size Max: 15
Course Overview
Vintage objects have stories to tell. Whether they belonged to a special family member or were found at a flea market they can be arranged into meaningful compositions that recall another time and place. This online class will discuss the art of storytelling through still life photography and work on techniques for creating beautiful object portraits for use as a selling tool, gift, tribute, or art piece.
In this course, students are encouraged to experiment with various photographic methods, including alternative processes, film, or digital photography. Over two sessions, this course consists of a PowerPoint presentation, a demonstration of home set up, backdrop considerations, and composition techniques. An assignment will be provided to be submitted and critiqued during the second session. Please note that this is a creative rather than technical class and is best suited for students with an understanding of their cameras and lighting.

“My passion for collecting and photographing vintage items began when I lost my mother 15 years ago. While cleaning out her house I realized that these beautiful vintage pieces she collected and saved from her mother have endured so much time in the family already and have so much history attached to them that I needed to keep and use them in my work. Surrounded by her things, I honor my mother and my memories of her every day. While scouring vintage flea markets with bins of old photos, postcards and other ephemera I am reminded that every family must have objects with stories to tell.” - Robin Zachary
