My photographs exist within the moments behind the scenes for a play that might never go on. At the core of my practice are interpersonal relationships and the dance of making images with other people. I am fascinated by the way photographs can capture how people can see one another within the frame and beyond it. Sophie Schwartz is a Cleveland born artist living in between New Haven and New York. Their work explores grief, memory, and queer connection, working primarily with a large format view camera. They graduated from the Modern Culture + Media program at Brown University. Their work has been featured in publications including Vogue, BOOOOOOOM, WÜL Magazine, and Architectural Digest. They were the recipient of the Harvey Geiger Travel Fellowship from Yale University and were selected as a finalist for the Dorothea Lange–Paul Taylor Prize, Critical Mass, and the Palm Photo Prize. Currently, they are an MFA candidate at Yale School of Art.
