PENUMBRA Members Gallery | SOPHIE SCHWARTZ

A ritual at the core of my artistic practice is building portraits in collaboration with the people I hold close. I am interested in the traces people leave on one another through connection, collaboration, and intimacy; and how that can be rendered in a photograph. Each image is constructed slowly and together, as I work with a 4x5 view camera to build a third space between me and those photographed.
