In this workshop, participants will take silver gelatin printing processes to the next level, exploring a range of substrates, emulsions, and manipulations to the basic silver gelatin darkroom experience. Liquid emulsion will be used to coat unconventional surfaces for printing such as cloth or ceramic, and “silvering out” techniques of chromoskedasic sabattier and Halo-chroming will be employed to create mirror-like, metallic areas on black and white prints.

Attendees should bring digital image files, existing negatives, and traditionally printed silver prints for post-production treatments. They are also encouraged to bring a variety of objects or substrates for printing onto, though some will also be provided. A familiarity with basic darkroom techniques will be assumed, but is not required.
