In this one day workshop, we'll explore Penumbra’s Riso printing possibilities. We'll learn about the basic options to print images, using the built-in scanner and the network card with Mac and Windows drivers (printing directly from PDF files and/or JPGs). We'll consider photographic publications printed with this technology and we'll make impressions using each participant's black and white photographs to see how the machine operates and renders images in different ways. We'll cover the steps needed to troubleshoot loading master paper, printing paper, replacing drums, ink bottles/tubes, adjusting thickness of papers and more. Each student will have the opportunity to operate the machine on their own. The week following the workshop each student will have two free hours to use the printer.

No specific requirements to participate in the workshop.
All students should bring up to six 8x10 inch photographs (printed and/or digital).

Leandro Villaro is a photographer, editor and the Director of Programs at Penumbra Foundation. He has collaborated in different book-related projects with numerous photographic organizations in the United States and Latin America.
