5x7 | This size can accommodate anywhere from 1 to 6 people. It is a great choice for those who would like to see more detail in their tintypes. The 5x7” plate has a slightly longer proportion than our classic 4x5” plate, which lends well for family portraits, couples, and maternity portraits.

TINTYPE STUDIO
Considered by many to be the Polaroid of the 19th century, the tintype is made almost instantaneously through a process that uses hand poured chemicals on an enameled sheet of metal. Tintypes, often found today in near original condition, were passed down as family heirlooms and valued for their time-tested archival stability.
The Penumbra Tintype Studio is open for sessions from 11:00am to 5:00pm, Thursday & Friday, and 12:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturdays. We are located at 36 E. 30th Street, New York, NY 10016.
